Photo of the day – Nha Trang

Nha Trang is one of the most popular beach resorts in Vietnam with six kilometres of beach to enjoy and numerous islands off the coast perfect for snorkelling or diving.

In the afternoons hawkers of all kinds come down to the sands to sell snacks, drinks and other food to tourists off both foreign and local origin.

This woman was grilling lobsters and a kind of pippie in a large shell. The latter were soaked in a sweet chilli sauce. As she turned the pieces, another man fired the embers to keep them hot.

Photos of Vietnam will be added to the blog in the coming weeks while I travel here.

Photo of the day – Mui Ne, Vietnam

Mui Ne on the coast north of Ho Chi Minh City is one of the most picturesque beach resorts in this southern stretch.

The 2m circular boats used by fishermen, known as Thung Chai, are paddled with one oar to get from shore to larger wooden fishing boats. The boats are made of woven bamboo strips.

Photo gallery – Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

I’ve been in Vietnam for about 10 days now. I spent the first week in Ho Chi Minh City – a frenetic city with unbelievable traffic, incredible relics of the French colonial times and also the Vietnam War, plus some fantastic cafes and restaurants, friendly people and wonderful galleries.

Here’s a small selection of some of the images from that week. To follow my blog about travelling overland through Vietnam on the Honda purchased in this gallery, please see www.asiancorrespondent.com

To see some other photos of Saigon, click here for those from my previous visit.
