Photo of the day: New born kid on Easter Sunday

As per the last few posts, I am profiling a few photos from galleries of Nepal that will be uploaded shortly (promise).

This sight (unfortunately slightly blurry) greeted us on our trek down to the hot springs below Jhinu Danda on the Annapurna Sanctuary hike. Remarkably it was Easter Sunday and seemed a perfect symbol of the new life represented on this holiday.

The kid had just been born and the mother was licking it clean with the after birth still being delivered. It was gorgeous, even right there in the mud. Rain was pouring down around us and obviously the goat hadn’t had time to find a quiet spot to give birth and had got down to business right in the middle of the trail with other trekkers coming past.

We watched for awhile, got as close as we dared and then went down to the springs. When we returned about 1-2 hours later there was no sign of the kid or its mum. So it must have somehow found its legs and managed to walk off with its mum.

Photo of the day: terraced hillsides in Nepal

Another post showcasing the beauty of Nepal: terraced hillsides above a river on the trek linking the Annapurna Sanctuary walk and Ghorepani.

A full gallery of this area will be added shortly.

Photo of the day: Woman with chicken near Chiule

This woman was walking along the track between Chiule and Chomrong (near Annapurna Sanctuary) with chickens in tow. You couldn’t help but think the journey probably wouldn’t end well for the fowl!

As per my previous post this is a snippet of the photos soon to be uploaded from my recent trip to Nepal. Stay tuned for more.

Photo of the day: View from Poon Hill

This image of the Annapurna peaks at sunrise was taken at Poon Hill just above Ghorepani. Brilliant rhododendron blooms offset the hillsides in Spring.

As per the last post I returned (finally) to Nepal after a 12 year hiatus and it was great to get back into what I consider my part of the world – high altitude, Himalaya, mountains and village life so reminiscent of where I used to live in India.

Hopefully this image is just a teaser to keep you checking back for more images of the roof of the world that I’ll upload shortly (plus some images of Songkran festivities in Bangkok and Borneo, Malaysia).
