I’m heading out to Carnarvon Gorge in a few days – a remote, beautiful spot in outback Queensland – and I’m looking forward to getting into the bush, camping, hiking and some great photo opportunities.

I was reviewing some images I have of other gorges in Queensland to get me in the mode and thought I’d post a few here. Unfortunately the small image of Lawn Hill National Park is probably one of the best but I can’t for the life of me find a larger version and don’t have time to rescan the old E6 file (yes it’s a few years old!)

The colours in the rock, the contrast of the white gums and the incredible natural beauty of these landscapes is quite awe inspiring – can’t wait to get to Carnarvon.

I love a sunburnt country,
A land of sweeping plains,

Of ragged mountain ranges,
Of droughts and flooding rains.
